VAALID

Fraunhofer IGD, 2011

Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) comprises technologies, services and concepts that support elderly and disabled people in their everyday lives, enabling them to live independently. A wide array of sensors, service components and devices for the home environment already exist, and more, many of them capable of interacting intelligently, are being developed every day.

VAALID facilitates the development of specific, individual AAL solutions by simulating and visualising them before they are installed in the user's home. Besides a rapid prototyping authoring environment for the AAL designer there is a 3D simulation environment which allows a design to be tested and validated by both the designer and user in a collaborative fashion.

To that end, the team first defined and developed a common technology base. We then designed a practical and user-friendly in-home product, involving user groups and experts in all steps of the development process.
